Europe is a continent so full of variety and contrast that it might often be difficult to choose where to explore next. If you have a car at your disposal, however, many more opportunities are likely to open up, so that car rental in Italy, for example, may offer some new horizons.

Roads less travelled

One Italian destination in particular might attract travellers of either an adventurous or entirely leisurely spirit – the island of Sicily. Set in the azure blue of the Mediterranean, at the south western “toe” of the mainland, the island might seem made for exploring by car.

Whether it’s the coastline or the timeless tranquillity of the interior that attracts you, a car is probably the best way of getting around. Public transport may be unreliable and with a hire car, it may be easy to reach places that remain tantalizingly off the beaten track.

Getting there

One thing more than any other that has probably helped to put Sicily on the map for car rental in Italy has been the development of Catania airport. It is the only airport on what is a large island, but currently ranks third – after only Rome and Milan – in Italy in terms of the volume of annual traffic.

As a gateway to the whole of the island, Catania offers all the facilities of a modern, major international airport, including the availability of cars for hire within the terminal itself.

Whether you are new to Europe car hire
bookings or an old hand, however, there may be distinct advantages to arranging your reservation in advance of the travel itself:

•	there is likely to be less of a problem with availability and you may avoid the disappointment of the car you particularly wanted already being rented out;

•	you may well save time at the airport – never likely to be the most enthralling destination on your travels – by avoiding the queues and inevitable form-filling at the car rental desk; and

•	often, access to some of the most competitive rates for car rental in Italy. Although low cost may be a relative term and likely to depend on what type of hire car you desire, pre-booking may typically qualify for attractive discounts.

I hate being herded into tourist buses and following set time frames when I am on holiday. I like to explore places at my own pace and like to plan the day as it goes. By hiring car I find I can achieve all this. By logging on to car hire spain I get all the rates of car hire offered by different companies in Spain and I can select the one that suits my budget. The website of this car rental company is very easy to use even for new customers. It is self-explanatory and offers a lot of valuable information about the cars available. There is a lot of flexibility in hiring a car on holiday. One can stop wherever one pleases for however long without being rushed. Since I like to drive I prefer a roadworthy car with a good set of wheels which can withstand cross country travel. In the winter I like to get a set of winter tyres to withstand the slippery roads.
During my last trip to Spain I used this website and booked my car. The car was good, handed over to me on time and I was not inconvenienced in any manner.

In spite of the loses, as reported earlier, there appears to be an increase in the tourism industry of the Switzerland, that is getting benefits because of the protests and airport strikes in Europe.

Though a decrease in the number of the European tourists, the Swiss tourism has benefited much as it has observed a great increase in the number of tourists from Asia. For the first half of the year, there was a rise of 16% in Asian tourists and 32% only in the month of June.

When compared with the last year, the Switzerland’s hotel industry has seen a growth in the first six months of year with 2.1%. From January to June, there were nearly 17.5 million overnight stays.

Earlier it was reported that the Swiss tourism will suffer for another 2 years due to the rise in the Swiss Franc and the economic conditions. But it appears to be benefiting from the last two months because of the strikes and protests in places like England, France, Greece, and Spain, which are making the tourists to head towards Switzerland, which has became a great substitute for the tourists who desire to spend holiday vacations in Europe.

It is noted that most of the tourists coming from Asia belongs to India, China and Japan. Europe and Car Hire Switzerland is working more to encourage the Indian tourists and it is expecting to get more tourists from India in the forthcoming months that would help in the decrease of its dependency on Europe.

The car hire services in Switzerland are operated by Hertz, Budget, Avis, Sixt, Alamo and Europcar.

Switzerland is situated in the Alps in Western Europe. It is a federate state of 26 cantons with a population of about 8 million people and its capital in Bern. The country is not a nation in terms of common ethnic and linguistic origins. There are four official languages of the state- French, German, Italian and Romansh. The country is united by common history and the ideas of a federate state and direct democracy. It is one of the richest countries in terms of per capita GDP. The country is considered as one of the best places to live in the world in terms of quality of life especially the cities of Geneva and Zurich.
Best Car Hire Switzerland is home to many international organizations such as the International Olympic Committee, FIFA, the World Trade Organization, the Red Cross, and the World Economic Forum. It is part of the European Free Trade Agreements and the Shengen Zone but not of the European Union and the European Economic Area.
The political system of Switzerland is characterized by direct democracy. The division between the different levels is as follows – federal level, canton, and commune. The civil rights of the citizens in the direct democracy is to start a constitutional initiative and referendum. In order to pass an adjustment they need to collect simple majority. By starting a federal referendum a law can be changed. A group of people can call for a national referendum after collecting 50,000 signatures in 100 days. To change the constitution the initiators must collect 100,000 votes in 18 months and then get to national level.
Switzerland has long-standing traditions in neutrality. The country has acted in a neutral way since 1515. The idea of neutrality is to abstain from participation in any military conflict, defensive pacts and support treaties. It the case of Switzerland it has had a profound importance for maintaining the country’s unity. In case of a war the different speaking cantons might want to support different countries and that can threaten the union of the federate republic.
The country’s neutrality was officially recognized during the Congress of Vienna after the defeat of Napoleon. Switzerland remained neutral during the most part of the 20th century and the world wars. There have been some accusations that they have taken sides. Allegedly, during the Second World War Switzerland helped Nazi authorities to sell and laundry the money and jewelry taken during the Holocaust against the Jews. They also helped the Allies by supplying them with materials for the war industry. In more recent history Switzerland became member of the United Nations in 2002 and has taken part of the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo. In order for that to happen there was a referendum to change the constitution. The two main points were to allow Swiss soldiers to be fully armed and to allow Swiss army to take part in international military trainings.
In case you are planning to travel in Switzerland you might want to rent a car. Companies that operate in the country are Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and Budget.

Recently most of us heard about the incident involving the son of Libya’s leader Hannibal Gaddafi that caused quite the stir in the relations between Switzerland and Libya.
Libya is a country in North Africa with a big territory mostly covered by desert and a small population. It is among the ten richest nations in the world in terms of oil reserves. The country has been ruled by Muammar Gaddafi since the military coup in 1969. With the help of other junior officers Gaddafi, then only a captain took control over the wealthy oil state from the current sultan Idris. Ever since the political leader has become symbol of foreign relations fluctuations and dictatorship.
The current incident happened in 2008 when Hannibal Gaddafi, Muammar’s son was arrested in Switzerland. He and his wife were taken in Geneva by police on charges of beating their two servants with a belt and a hanger. The two rejected the accusations. They were released two days later and left the country promptly. In 2005 Hannibal was arrested and convicted for beating his girlfriend in France so this is not his first trouble with the law.
As a result Libya took measures against Switzerland. The Jamahiriya forbid Swiss nationals from travelling to the country. Car Hire Libya recalled its diplomats, suspended the issuing of visas and reduced flights to the European country. Moreover, two Swiss were arrested on various charges. Many Swiss companies in Libya received orders to close their operations and many others were sealed by authorities.
Switzerland sent a diplomatic mission to the capital to try to prevent the crisis and to give details about the arrest to Gaddafi government. The Swiss foreign ministry complained about the African state’s behavior towards Swiss business ventures and they retaliated by stopping Libyan oil shipments. The state company transporting oil is close related to Hannibal. Furthermore, ships sailing under the flag of Switzerland were forbidden entry in Libyan ports. The next step in the escalation of the matter was the Libyan oil refinery in Switzerland. Later Libya withdrew their money from Swiss banks.
The next round was that Switzerland banned 188 Libya nationals from entering the country. All of those are political elite and among them is even Muammar Gaddafi. The country pushed further by rejecting Libyan Shengen visa applicants and asked other European nations to follow suit.
Now, two years later Libyan mediators were rejected entry in Switzerland. A request has been brought for international arbitration supported by both sides, but it has not achieved anything yet. On Libya’s side so far have joined the Arab League Council and Arab Maghreb Union. The African state is complaining about biased media coverage of the incident.
Muammar Gaddafi’s official statement on this matter is that there was use of excessive force during the arrest of his son. Also, that the Geneva police force did not show enough consideration to Hannibal’s wife who was pregnant and their other child that was also there.
Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and Budget are the car hire services found in Switzerland.

Switzerland is a territory which is situated in the western part of Europe. It has a total area of 41,285 km2 (15,590 sq.mi). Switzerland is considered one of the richest countries in the world. Zurich and Geneva which are the two cities in Switzerland have been ranked as having the second and third highest quality of life in the world.
Geography and climate:
Switzerland encompasses a great diversity of landscapes and climates on a limited area of 41,285 square km (15,940 sq mi). The population of Swiss has the population of approximately 7.8 million. The southern half of the country is far more sparsely populated than the northern half of the country.
Here, the summers tend to be warm and humid at times with periodic rainfall. The winters in the mountains alternate with sun and snowfall, while the lower lands tend to be more cloudy and foggy in winter. The driest conditions persist in the southern valleys. The wettest conditions persist in the high Alps.
The eastern part tends to be colder than western Switzerland and can experience a cold spell at any time of the year. Precipitation spreads moderately throughout the year, with minor variations across the seasons depending on locale. Autumn is frequently the driest season, yet the weather patterns in Switzerland can be highly variable from year to year, and difficult to predict.
Demographics:
Switzerland lies at the crossroads of several major European cultures that have heavily influenced the country’s languages and culture. It has four languages. German, French, Italian and Romansh.
Resident foreigners and temporary foreign workers make up about 22% of the population. Most of these (60%) are from European Union. The high proportion of foreign citizens in the country, as well as the generally unproblematic integration of foreigners, underlines Switzerland’s openness.
Culture:
Switzerland is the home of three of Europe’s major languages. Swiss culture is characterized by diversity, which is reflected in a wide range of traditional customs. It is home to many notable contributors to literature, art, architecture, music and sciences. In addition the country attracted a number of creative persons during time of unrest or war in Europe. Around 1000 museums are distributed through the country and the number has more than tripled since 1950. Some areas throughout the year have a recreational culture that caters to tourism, yet the quieter seasons are spring and autumn when there are fewer visitors and a higher ratio of Swiss.
Transportation:
Switzerland has a very high density of railway network, with an average of 122 km of track for every 1000 km2. The Swiss Federal Railways run some 5000 passenger trains covering approximately 274,000 km daily, half of which are train operated by long distance services the other half being regional and suburban services. In 2008, 322 million passengers used the Swiss Federal Railways and each Swiss citizen ran on average 2,422 km by rail, which makes them the highest rail users.
Local bus services cover the whole country. It covers the smaller urban areas and every region not connected to the rail network.
Geneva International Airport is located 4 km (2.5 mi) northwest of the city centre and has direct connections to motorways, bus lines and railways. The airport has a single concrete runway, which is the longest in Switzerland with a length of 3,900 m (12,795 ft), and a smaller, parallel, grass runway for light aircraft.
For nearly 60 shops are available in Geneva International Airport relating to food, chocolates, duty free shops, fashion & accessories, drugstore, gifts, flowers, books, music, perfumes, and so on. Services relating to post office, banks, business and multimedia, car rentals, car parks ate, are also available.
Car rental services:
The car rental services which are available are
•	Avis car rental.
•	Budget car rental.
•	Europcar car rental.
•	Hertz car rental.
•	Alamo car rentals.
